Earlier this year I spent 4 months Volunteering in Eastern Asia. One of the things that amazed me the most about the kids I worked with is how happy they were.
Some of these kids didn't have running water. They lived in the slums with very little real shelter. Many of them lived with relatives or alone as their mother's were in prison and their father's had abandoned them.
No matter what was going on in their little lives they always greeted me with smiles and hugs. The smallest things, such as a balloon, bubbles, or a new ball would cause great excitement. They could play for hours on end and were always extremely grateful.
I came home with a new appreciation for the little things in life. I started to write down the things that made me smile. Now I have a jar full of messages from friends, funny things the kids at work say to me, memories from family trips and so much more.
It's easy to get caught up in the business of life and forget all the things you have to be grateful for. When something gets me down and life seems to hard I reach into my jar and pull out a memory and suddenly I am smiling again and everything seems a little easier.
I hope you are having a wonderful day xo
Love, Jessica
